Dranetz-BMI's PG4400 and the PowerVisa have the ability to capture and record lightning events at the transmission level, as shown below. Though the PX5's 1MHZ sampling rate assures capturing even the narrower lightning impulsive transients, the PG4400 was connected thru a high voltage PT to 115Kv with the PT acting to stretch out the energy of the lightning strike over time and it's affect on the voltage. Not only did the instruments capture the lightning strike but also confirms that lightning events cause resulting voltage sags.
Notice the difference Phase to Phase voltage is worst case a 38% sag on two phases but recorded single phase as a 67% sag on 1 phase measured phase to neutral. This clearly demonstrates the benefits of getting simultaneous L-N and L-L voltages on wye circuits.
In 2003, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia approved the 10 year plan for the development of their transmission network and handed the responsibility of ensuring high quality and impartial transmission of electric power through this carefully developed, constructed and maintenance of the transmission network over to Electro-Slovenija (ELES). This company, headquartered in Ljubljana, Slovenia (picture of Ljubljana River shown above) employing almost 500 people and had sales in 2006 of approximately $231.1 million dollars. They maintain the transmission network which operates at 110kV voltage levels comprising of 141 transmission lines for a total length of 2,587 kilometers, which includes 20 substations with 32 power transformers having a total rated power of 3951 MVA (232 circuit breakers, 747 disconnectors, 1281 measurement transformers and 510 surge arresters).
When ELES sought out a company to monitor all of this, they found TECTRA-Dranetz BMI. Through the efforts of our distributor TECTRA and Dranetz-BMI, we were able to convince them that the logical choice was Dranetz-BMI power quality equipment, providing them with 30 61SG units and 1 PowerVisa. With so much responsibility placed in ELES hands, there just was no other choice but to go with Dranetz-BMI. Job well done Ivo, Zlatko, Mate and Primoz.
